COURT TODAY BLOCKAfter Omar Henderson Herbert pleaded guilty to four traffic violations last Thursday, a Bridgetown magistrate fined him $1,350 forthwith.

The unemployed resident of Seale’s Avenue, Tudor Bridge, St Michael admitted that last December 7 he rode  a motorcycle which had no registration number, no insurance, no road tax and no license plate affixed to the back of the vehicle.

Herbert explained to Magistrate Graveney Banister in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court that he had gone to the Licensing Authority the day before he was reported to get a permit but was told that he could not get a motorcycle license without having a cycle.

He said he arranged to get one and while he was pushing the cycle to the gas station to put gas in it, police “jumped” on him. “I didn’t ride it,” Hebert said, “I didn’t even know if it (the cycle) was working”.

He was fined $450 forthwith for not having the registration number, $750 for not having insurance and $150 for not having a rear license plate. He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for not having an L attached to the cycle at the time. The fines were paid.

Three other traffic offences which Herbert denied were adjourned until October 20 for trial.
