COURT TODAY BLOCK
Carl Hewitt went to court today to answer a charge of serious bodily harm.

However, he ended up being escorted to HMP Dodds after records showed he had failed to pay $4,500 in compensation resulting from two previous assault cases more than two years ago.

When the 59-year-old Deighton Road, St Michael resident appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, court officials discovered that a warrant for his arrest had been issued in relation to the non-payment of $2,500 and $2,000 in compensation, dating back to July 29, 2013.

As a result, Hewitt will spend the next three months in prison as failure to pay the compensation carried an alternative sentence of three months. The sentences will run consecutively.

He will return to court on October 19 to answer the serious bodily harm charge.
