COURT TODAY BLOCKAfter being charged with the offence of dishonestly assisting with the disposal of a stolen $800 cell phone four years ago, a St Michael woman was found guilty today.

Sandy Nicole Williams of Upper Collymore Rock was ordered by Magistrate Douglas Frederick to pay $800 costs to the court within the next three weeks or spend one month in jail.

The phone which belonged to Rashida Yearwood was handled sometime between November 17 and 23 2011.

Evidence from a police witness during the trial suggested that Williams’ son had given the phone to someone.

Williams then contacted and asked that person to bring the phone back but on receiving it, she never handed it over to police, although she knew it was at the centre of an investigation.

Instead Williams gave the phone to someone else, who said he was going to sell it. Frederick noted the police officer’s evidence was never challenged by Williams.

Mitigating on Williams’ behalf, attorney-at-law Oliver Thomas told the court that the 37-year-old mother of three was a single parent and shopkeeper who was “hitherto unknown” to the court.
