A “well known” thief was jailed yesterday after he admitted stealing four packages of rum fudges and two packages of souvenir rum packs from F. W. Woolworth on October 14.
Patrick Mark Bascombe, 58, of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael, was seen by security taking items from a shelf and putting them into a plastic bag which he had at the time.
As the thief tried to leave the City store without paying for the items, he was intercepted by security who searched his bag. The matter was reported to police.
Today, Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman, the police prosecutor, informed District ‘A’ Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant that “he is well known, Ma’am.”
In his address to the court, Bascombe said it was “a long time since I get into anything so. I asking if I could get a fine ‘cause I working.” Instead, he got six months in jail.
