Police caught teenager Shamar Victor Corbin napping in an unoccupied house earlier this week.
When the 3rd Avenue, Alleyne Land, Bush Hall, St Michael resident went before a Bridgetown magistrate today, he admitted that he loitered on Greeta Moore’s premises on Wednesday and could not give a satisfactory account to police for doing so.
Corbin appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court No. 2.
The caretaker of the Perfection New Road, Bush Hall, St Michael property where Corbin was found, told police that the homeowner had died and the house was unoccupied.
On October 14, police received a report that there was someone on the premises but when they arrived, they found no-one. They returned around 11.30 p.m., saw a light on in the house and on investigating further, found Corbin laying in a bed.
He told lawmen that he left his mother’s house and was “looking for some place
to sleep”.
Mitigating on Corbin’s behalf, attorney Alexandria Daniel told the court that her client was in fact looking for somewhere to sleep and was not at the house to steal anything.
She explained that he and the former owner were friends and on that night, his mother’s boyfriend was at their home, which is small, so he left to go looking elsewhere for lodging.
Daniel also said that Corbin wanted to be off the street by his 6 p.m. curfew time. She urged the court therefore to consider a non-custodial sentence.
Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant reprimanded and discharged Corbin.
