An unemployed St Michael man was given a six-month sentence earlier today, which Magistrate Douglas Frederick suspended for nine months.
Should Anderson Omar Murrell commit any other offence within the next nine months, that six month sentence will be automatically activated.
The 27-year-old admitted to having cannabis and apparatus fit for use in connection with cocaine. Murrell lives at Wellington Street, The City.
The District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court heard from acting Station Sergeant Neville Watson that police on patrol saw Murrell standing along Queen Street, The City yesterday. When they looked towards him, they noticed a clenched left fist which he quickly placed behind his back.
Police requested a search and found a Ziploc bag, with 47 small wrappings of marijuana inside. When asked to account for it, Murrell told lawmen he was out of work.
Murrell was arrested and charged and when police executed a search warrant at his home, they found two coffee grinders near some marijuana, which he told them he used to “cut up weed”.
Today Murrell also told the court that he was not working and has to support a seven-year-old son.
Magistrate Frederick advised Murrell to set a better example for his son.
Murrell was sentenced on the possession matter and was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the apparatus.
