A man accused of indecently assaulting a doctor, cried out that he needed to see one this afternoon when he appeared in a Bridgetown court.
Jason Jamal Newton, of West Road, Lodge Hill, St Michael entered the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court with a heavily-bandaged left hand and covering his left eye.
The 32-year-old was there on a charge of indecently assaulting a female doctor on November 4. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which Magistrate Kristie
Cuffy-Sargeant read to him.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Janice Ifill, objected to bail for the accused, based on the seriousness of the charge, the belief that if granted bail, Newton would interfere with the complainant and also his antecedents.
Newton’s case was called about half an hour after he entered the courtroom. After he left the dock and returned to the bench, the pain in his swollen left eye seemed unbearable.
“Ma’am, my eye hurting me ma’am. I want tuh see a doctor, hear?” Newton said loudly. Within minutes, he repeated his request, this time, moaning and crying and shaking his legs.
“Hmmmmmmmm,” he cried, “I want tuh see a doctor.”
The psychiatric outpatient was led from the courtroom after he was remanded to HMP Dodds. He will return to court on December 17.
