On November 19, a teenager threw a rock and damaged the rear window of a car driven by the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. That action will now cost Akeem Antonio Jabar Cooke more than $1 300.
Cooke has pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging the vehicle belonging to Roland Babb, when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant.
If he cannot come up with the cash within the next two months, Cooke will be spending three month in jail, instead. The 18-year-old lives at Fairfield Cross Road, Tudor Bridge, St Michael.
According to the facts which Sergeant Martin Rock presented to the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court, Babb’s girlfriend is Cooke’s ex and the former couple broke up two years ago.
While the driver was travelling through Fairfield on November 19, on his way to Kew Road, St Michael,
he noticed Cooke and two other men standing in the middle of the road. He blew the horn but none of them moved.
Babb then reversed into a yard and while doing so,
he saw all three men take up rocks from beside the road and begin walking towards his car. As he reached a nearby junction, Babb turned left in order to avoid his car being struck.
While making the turn, he saw Cooke throw a rock which landed to the back of the car, shattering the glass. The unemployed teenager told the court today that he threw the rock because the driver drove the car at him.
The first-time offender was ordered to pay $857.93 in compensation to Babb, plus a fine of $500 to the court for committing the offence.
