COURT TODAY BLOCKMichael Decoursey Trotman, 46, of Corner Club Morgan, Christ Church has been placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay compensation to the two complainants in his case.

The gardener pleaded guilty last month to entering the building of the Barbados Table Tennis Association and intentionally damaging a vending machine by hitting it several times with a shovel, in his search for money.

After finding none, Trotman then stole a bottle of disinfectant and a bottle of dishwashing liquid, with a total value of $17.00. The incidents occurred between May 18 and 19 this year.

When he first appeared before acting Magistrate Elwood Watts, Trotman said he was hearing voices coming from the machine and was sent to the Psychiatric Hospital for an evaluation.

Yesterday, when he reappeared for sentencing, Watts ordered him to compensate the Barbados Table Tennis Association in the sum of $20 for the stolen items and Vending Plus $100 weekly until the $1,450 in damage which he caused to machine is fully paid.

If the court order is breached, Trotman will spend 12 months behind bars and will still have to undergo psychiatric treatment.
