A repeat thief changed his plea today when he returned before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant.
Antonio Ryan Miller, of no fixed place of abode, admitted entering DeCoursey Smith’s house on April 7 this year, and stealing an $800 pair of shoes, clothes and a cellular phone, totalling $1 579 in value.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Janice Ifill, told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that a report was made to police and when investigations were carried out, they led to Miller. The shoes and the phone were later recovered from him.
Miller begged the court “for a second chance” today. “Man, please mam,” Miller said, “I would like a second chance.”
Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant reminded him that he already had several; in 2011 when he served 18 months and was ordered to undergo drug counselling for a similar offence, twice in 2012 when he had to pay costs and again in 2015.
“You have been before the court on several occasions for similar offences… and each time you trespassed, you removed property,” the magistrate told the offender.
Miller also asked the magistrate to consider placing him on a bond or community service.
“I’m not even going to consider a bond,” she said. “You are sentenced to 30 months in prison and the time spent on remand (six months) is to be deducted.”
