COURT TODAY BLOCKIf the prosecution is not ready to proceed with their case against alleged fraudster George Stevenson Springer the next time he comes to court, he will be granted bail.

This assurance was given to Springer by Magistrate Douglas Frederick when the 58-year-old businessman appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.

Springer has been on remand at HMP Dodds for the past eight months.

He is accused of attempting to obtain $60,000 from the City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union by virtue of a forged instrument as well as $150,000 from RBC Royal Bank of Canada.

Springer made an application for bail today.
He argued that despite being on remand for a lengthy period, the prosecution was not yet in a position to start the case.

In asking for the matter to be adjourned, police prosecutor Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman said he was almost ready to proceed with the case.

However, before remanding Springer for a further two months, Magistrate Frederick told the accused that he “was willing to meet him halfway” and would grant him bail if the prosecution was not ready to proceed
on his next court appearance on October 27.
