Three teenaged bullies received a dose of their own medicine while spending a week on remand at HMP Dodds.
Reappearing today before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court, 17-year-old Ahmal Gregory Elias, along with Lamar Ricardo Johnson and Justin Tremaine Bourne, both 16-years-old, all complained of being bullied at the St Philip prison.
The three young men were remanded last Friday after pleading guilty to robbing Orlando Farnum of one cellphone and a pair of slippers valued at $1,300.
A juvenile was also charged in connection with the incident.
When asked by the magistrate if they had enjoyed their stay, they all complained about being bullied. One of them said he was even forced to “give away my bread”.
“This is a case of the bullies being bullied. I’m glad that you have learnt your lesson in a short space of time after going to prison and finding bigger bullies,” Magistrate Frederick told them.
“I hope this experience will change your life.”
He then granted them $2,500 bail each and ordered them to return to court on October 30 for a pre-sentencing report.
According to evidence presented in the case, Farnum was attacked on August 22 while on his way to Accra beach. He was slapped and punched about his body and when he tried to escape, he fell and was subsequently robbed by the four youngsters.
The victim made a complaint to his mother on arriving home, and a report was made to the police. Investigations were carried out and the four boys were arrested.
