A St Michael man who was found guilty of possession of $26,000 worth of cannabis in his house, was remanded to HMP Dodds today when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court.
Despite his innocence pleas, Damien Kelvin Walrond, 30, of Roberts Road, Halls Road will spend the next month and a half in prison after Magistrate Douglas Frederick found him guilty of four drug charges dating back three years.
Walrond was found guilty of possession of cannabis, cultivation of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and possession of a trafficable quantity of cannabis.
After telling Walrond the evidence was “overwhelming” and he was finding him guilty, the accused man told him “to do what you had to do”.
“Don’t tell me to do what I want to do because I would send you to prison. If you don’t want me to do that, you better tell me something about yourself,” the Magistrate warned the first-time offender.
Walrond then proceeded to tell Magistrate Frederick he was a good person and the father of a daughter who tried his best to stay out of trouble.
The Magistrate then asked how long he would need to repay a fine of $26,000, to which he replied “two to three years.”
Telling him that was far too long, Magistrate Frederick then remanded him to prison, pending a pre-sentence report.
According to police prosecutor Sergeant Martin Rock, police executed a search warrant at Walrond’s residence on July 3, 2012, where they found him at home.
During the search, 26 cannabis plants weighing just over 11 pounds were discovered in several plant pots.
Walrond will return to court on October 30.
