A Jamaican man denied three drug charges which Magistrate Douglas Frederick read to him yesterday.
Neil Alexander Churchill Bennett, of Westgate Hill, Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica pleaded not guilty to having cocaine, trafficking and intent to supply 2.15 kilogrammes of the substance on October 16.
The accused is a 47-year-old financial consultant.
Sergeant Neville Reid objected to bail on the grounds that Bennett is a non-national who came here on October 8, initially stayed at a hotel but now has no fixed place of abode.
The prosecutor added that the allegations were serious and if granted bail, he doubted that he would be “in a position to secure the accused’s attendance to answer this charge”, particularly since there “was no information that he has substantial connections within this jurisdiction”.
Allan Carter, who is representing the accused along with Romain Marshall, said that his client was given a six-month stay in Barbados and asked the court to consider bail if he is able to produce a suitable surety.
The magistrate said he would not make a determination until that person was produced before the court.
