COURT TODAY BLOCKAn unemployed man was sentenced to six months in jail by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant last Friday, after admitting that he was in possession of cannabis on Wednesday.

John Seymour Ricardo Griffith was not required to plead to two other indictable charges though; that he had an unlicensed firearm and nine rounds of ammunition for which he had no permit on that same date.

He was remanded until November 13 in relation to those allegations.

Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that when police executed a search warrant at Griffith’s Dash Gap, Bank Hall, St Michael home, they found a small quantity of the drug in a transparent plastic bag, in a television stand. He admitted it was his.

Griffith’s attorney, Romario Straker, described his client as “industrious and family oriented” and as one “who took responsibility for what he did”.

Straker also said that his client’s actions showed remorse since he “did not seek to flee but surrendered to the police”.

Griffith is a repeat offender.
