It was a massive “call day” at the District ‘F’ Magistrates’ Court today when about 400 persons charged for various traffic offences appeared before Magistrate Ian Weekes.
It was a good day for the Government’s coffers too, with collections reportedly topping $20, 000 from the payment of fines by those found guilty.
The courtroom, foyer and courtyard were jammed with persons waiting their turn to have their matters dealt with. Both sides of the entire stretch of Blackmans Road, St Joseph, where the court is located in the Eric Holder Complex, were lined with vehicles.
Most of the violations were for speeding. Others were for offences such as not wearing a seatbelt or obstructing traffic. Interestingly, many of the drivers were caught speeding along Lancaster and Trents Roads in St. James.
The court began sitting just after 9 a.m. and ended close to 5 p.m.
