A taxi driver is now facing four sex charges relating to a minor girl.

Darnley Rudolph Nurse, of Gas Products Road, Wildey, St Michael was remanded when he went before the District ‘A’ Traffic Court earlier today.

The 47-year-old is accused of committing serious indecency and having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl between January 1 and November 3 this year, both occurring within the District ‘A’ jurisdiction.

He is further charged with a second count of unlawful sexual intercourse and defilement of a minor, between September and December, 2014. The offences allegedly occurred within the District ‘B’ jurisdiction.

He was not required to answer to any of the four indictable charges which Magistrate Graveney Bannister read to him.

In his objections to bail, Station Sergeant Peter Barrow told the court that the nature and the seriousness of the allegations ought to be considered, along with  the fact that Nurse has antecedents, even though of a different type.

Barrow also pointed out to Magistrate Bannister that the society – particularly young children – needed to be protected as it relates to these types of allegations.

Further, the prosecutor believed that if Nurse were to be granted bail other allegations might arise since the current ones were said to have occurred while the girl was reported missing.

In response, attorney-at-law Ernest Jackman believed that his client was a good candidate for bail. He explained that Nurse was the sole breadwinner for his three minor children.

Jackman also stressed that the prosecution never mentioned anything about Nurse not showing up for his trial.

The accused will return to court on December 4 after appearing in the District ‘B’ Magistrates Court on December 3.
