Jude Levere “Bubble Bear” Corbin will know what price he has to pay later this month for breaking into a rural funeral home two years ago and stealing several items.
Appearing before Justice Margaret Reifer in the No. 5 Supreme Court today, the Bromefield, St Lucy man admitted entering Gregston Haynes’ business on July 31, 2013 and stealing a gun, six rounds of ammunition, some pork, lamb and chicken.
The items had a total value of $2 685. Corbin also pleaded guilty to using an unlicensed firearm on the same date.
In a statement to police, the then 43-year-old said he “had in a couple drinks and I tell myself to look for a little money”. He targeted the L. R. Harris Funeral Home, pulling and opening the front door.
He then went to a freezer and removed some meat, before spotting a gun on a small table and taking that as well. Police investigations led to the repeat offender.
While Corbin was being interviewed by Sergeant Winston Goddard, he admitted his guilt. “It is me. I do it,” he said. He also told police of attempting to sell the meat and, after not being successful, taking it by a “Jack” to keep for him. He later showed police where Jack “does be”.
Sergeant Tyrone Leacock told the court that Corbin had 17 previous convictions, beginning in 1989 when he was found guilty of marijuana possession conviction. The others included several counts of theft, using indecent language and resisting arrest.
Corbin will continue on remand until November 27 when his presentencing report and the time he spent on remand will be heard.
