Bus driver awaiting sentencing

Justice Jacqueline Cornelius wants to know some more about the driving record of former PSV operator Clare Ramon Nevero Hinds before she sentences him. Hinds, of Perfection Road, Bush Hall, St Michael returned before her today in the High Court No. 5 for his pre-sentencing report. However, the judge was still not satisfied that she knew enough about the suspended Transport Board bus driver to determine his fate. Hinds pleaded guilty weeks ago before the same court, to driving dangerously on March 3, 2012. Hinds was driving the Transport Board bus which hit Edna Sandiford at the Princess Alice Bus Terminal on that fateful day. The woman died later at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Noting his 63 previous traffic violations as a public service vehicle driver, the judge sought information of Hinds’ driving record while being a driver with the state-owned agency from 1999 until 2013. She therefore asked the probation officer to investigate and return to court on December 9. Hinds will remain on bail until then. The court heard today that the incident has severely affected Hinds, who is now experiencing insomnia and hypertension. The probation officer added that he had expressed “deep regret” over the death of the elderly woman and was still “emotionally traumatised”.
