Marston Owen Mascoll was told to “take stock” of his life because he is getting older and to stop coming back to court “if you don’t like jail”.
The Ashby Alley, Nelson Street, City resident was before the court today for having 3 grammes of cannabis on Monday.
Police saw him at Wellington Street and before they could search him, he admitted having ‘fanta’ on him. The convicted man told Magistrate Graveney Bannister that he was not working at the moment. The labourer said he was expecting to find work soon since he has “a brethren” who will be starting a project.
“So you will be mixing mortar and so on?” the magistrate asked.
“Yes,” Mascoll replied, “if you don’t put me in jail”.
When Bannister informed Mascoll that there are projects going on in jail as well, Mascoll responded: “But you don’t get pay up dey.”
The 38-year-old admitted using marijuana and hitting “the hard stuff once in a while”. Asked to explain, Mascoll said he meant cocaine.
When the magistrate probed further by asking Mascoll if he considered himself as having a drug problem, or if he wanted to participate in the Drug Treatment Court, he answered in the negative.
“It ain’t something I does do every day,” he explained. He was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service by December 18 when he returns to court for his report to be presented.
