The District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Courts were forced to wait on prisoners this morning, after the bus in which they were travelling broke down at the nearby Supreme Court Complex on Whitepark Road, The City.
Barbados TODAY understands that four prison officers who were accompanying the 13 prisoners remained on the bus for close to three hours until a second bus arrived to complete the journey. The wait was from 9 a.m. to around 11.45 a.m.
One prison official who spoke under anonymity, called for new buses, saying
that the current fleet was “always breaking down”.
He also expressed concern over the danger that the officers could have faced, had the bus broken down elsewhere.
“To begin with, they would have been seriously outnumbered,” he said.
