COURT TODAY BLOCKA man, who hit a security guard with a rock, has the next six months to reflect on his actions at HMP Dodds.

Derrick Anderson Brathwaite, of Hall Ground, Clapham, Christ Church pleaded guilty today before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.

The 39-year-old entertainer assaulted Peter Best on November 23, occasioning actual bodily harm, and also used threatening words towards the complainant.

Best is a security guard attached to the Sol Service Station, Wildey, St Michael. According to the facts of the case, on the date in question while Best was having lunch, Brathwaite approached him.

Brathwaite was holding a screwdriver when he said to the guard: “I would like to kill a security officer and go in prison and sit down for him.”

The two then argued and the guard ordered Brathwaite to leave the premises.

Instead, Brathwaite took up a rock and threw it at the guard, hitting him on his left hip. A customer then helped to subdue the assailant and the police were called.

Previously, management had banned Brathwaite from coming on to the premises.

This incident and Brathwaite’s ten previous convictions were taken into consideration by the magistrate, who sentenced him to six months for the assault and three more for his use of threats. The three-month sentence will run concurrently.
