COURT TODAY BLOCKFormer United Kingdom-based nurse, Jason Forde, is behind bars tonight after being committed to HMP Dodds pending extradition to the UK to answer a number of sex-related charges.

Magistrate Graveney Bannister committed the Barbadian citizen last Friday when his matter came up again before the District ‘A’ Traffic Court.

However, Forde’s extradition might have to wait pending the outcome of a judicial review which his attorney is seeking.

Hal Gollop QC said he intends to seek the review “based on the procedural error used by the magistrate to commit Forde”.

The resident of #2 Constance Drive, Seaview, Chancery Lane, Christ Church, is accused of committing eight sexual offences against a person with a mental disorder by a caregiver, sometime on or before May 10, 2004.

The alleged offences took place at a Psychiatric Hospital in Westminster, United Kingdom where Forde was employed as a nurse.

Weeks ago, Magistrate Bannister found that a prima facie case had been made out against Forde, who was then given the opportunity to put his defence.

However, Gollop asked for an extension beyond the proposed November 20 date of hearing. The lawyer stated that it would be “too soon for him to properly get in touch with prospective witnesses who reside in England”. Gollop therefore asked for a six-week minimum instead but that request was denied.

No defence witnesses testified last Friday.

The Crown was represented during the hearing by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Donna Babb-Agard QC, and Principal Crown Counsel Elwood Watts.
